2016
In collaboration with Tuukka Päivärinne and Sarianna Salminen.
The building finds its place as part of the Suomenlinna Unesco heritage site reinterpreting the architecture, the landscape and the materials of the fortress island. The building is located on the shoreline, that is modified respecting and utilizing the natural processes. The sculptural form creates a protective embrace around a courtyard that opens towards the evening sun and protects it from the stormy sea. The landscape glides from a meadow to a rocky and sandy beach, typical to the archipelago. A public route along the shoreline ensures that visitors of all ages can enjoy the landscape. The building conceals a series of spatially rich homes that support different lifestyles and situations. The apartments turn their gaze towards the sea. The entrances and terraces are protected from the elements. Compact form is efficient in the use of materials and energy. The main material is brick masonry. The dark tin rood and rhythm of the chimneys ties the building to its historical surroundings. Wood in details and interiors softens the appearance. Floor are 835brm2.
